Milestones State Percentile Ranks, 2024

The view below converts average test scores for each school into a state percentile rank. This view helps compare performance over time across grades and subjects1 and to the rest of the state.

The percentiles show a school’s relative position among all Georgia schools. For example, Burgess Peterson’s 2024 average 3rd-grade English score is in the 91st percentile. This means their average scale score is as high as or higher than 91% of schools in Georgia. This is an increase from 90 in 2023.

Use the filters to change to a different district or school or switch to a more traditional measure like percent proficient. Mouse-over a point to see its value or use the filter on the lower right to label all points.

Notice that the x-axis does not include 2020 or 2021. The Milestones were not administered in spring 2020, and although the Milestones were administered in 2021, APS take rates were low and not representative.

Footnotes

  1. For example, 2024 state proficiency levels range from 48.1% for fourth grade math to 34.7% for sixth grade math. A school or cluster that finds a 13.4-point gap in their own performance across grades might think they’ve found a large gap in instructional quality, when the gap might just be an artifact of varying exam difficulty. Using state percentile ranks eliminates the impact of exam difficulty variations by comparing a school’s scores relative to others on the same test.
